VERS 50203 1500 2006 MODE SEQ NAME Modified Walraven-type image slicer NOTE 0 The Walraven-type image slicer works with total internal reflection inside a flat slab. The modification is that the beam directly enters the edge of the flat slab and so the whole thing is comprised NOTE 0 of only two pieces of glass, mounted on a circular window. I designed it as a non-sequential device using two flat mirrors that are immersed in the silica medium. The beam repeatedly reflects betwee NOTE 0 n the two mirrors and a slice of light passes the back one on each pass, forming a slit-shaped image. By designing the slicer to operate at f/70, the parts were not too small and the focus difference NOTE 0 between successive slices was insignificant. This is in use on Gemini, with two of these '5-slicers' on a single mount.
