Post-doctoral Research Assistant to work on the MICE Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment and Neutrino factory development.The Subdepartment of Particle Physics at the University of Oxford is seeking a highly qualified post-doctoral research assistant to work on the MICE Ionisation Cooling Experiment and Neutrino Factory development.The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE), which is taking place at RAL, will demonstrate the feasibility of ionisation cooling for the first time. The Oxford group contributes to the simulation and analysis of MICE with emphasis on the beam optics and physics of ionisation cooling; the group's hardware responsibilities include the superconducting Focus Coils and the muon diffuser for the experiment. The person appointed will support the group's hardware activities, and take an active part in the running of MICE and the analysis of the data. They will also have the opportunity to contribute to the International Design Study for a Neutrino Factory. The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Oxford as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale, which ranges from 28,839 to 35,469 pounds per annum, depending on experience.
